1. Use Skin Friendly Natural Colours: Although holi traditionally is meant to be played with natural colours, but over the years natural colours have been replaced by synthetic colours which contain many harmful chemicals like heavy metals, acids, mercury sulphite, powdered glass etc.

All these are toxic and can result in skin allergies like itching, irritation, dryness etc.

2. Avoid Water based colours: Many water based colours have an alkaline base capable of causing severe problems. If it enters the eyes, it can pose a great danger to one's vision.

Colours in the form of paste have toxic compounds mixed in a base of engine oil or other inferior quality oil, capable of causing skin allergy, temporary blindness and much more.

3. Coat your skin with petroleum jelly: Harmful colours contacting your skin causes itching, red rashes and irritation in the area of contact, hence it is advised to apply petroleum jelly, body oil or edible oil on exposed parts, to prevent colours from coming in contact with your skin.

4. Cover maximum body part: To protect your skin during holi, wear clothes that cover maximum part of the body including your hair.

5. Post Holi skincare: If there is any rash or irritation then visit a dermatologist. Use a mild cream like Elocon or Flutivate and if it doesn't subside then visit the dermatologist.
