Bafta Awards 2012: The Artist Dominates the Bafta Awards (See List of winners)

The 2012 BAFTAs were held on Sunday,12 February, at London’s Royal Opera House. Honouring the year’s greatest achievements in film with an emphasis on British talent, the ceremony is considered ‘Britain’s Oscars’ and draws top-tier stars from the UK as well as across the pond in Hollywood.

The night’s clear favourite was ‘The Artist,’ which was the most-nominated film and nabbed seven prizes including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actor for Jean Dujardin. ‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy’ was named Best British Film. And Meryl Streep won the Best Actress honour for portraying political legend Margaret Thatcher in ‘The Iron Lady.’

Octavia Spencer, who has pretty much dominated the Best Supporting Actress field this awards season, won yet another trophy for ‘The Help.’ Acknowledging the love from across the pond in her acceptance speech, she reportedly said, ‘It’s been said that “The Help” is an American movie about American problems in American history, and I’m so grateful to you for seeing beyond that.’
