Sufi singer Kailash Kher to Perform In Kathmandu in Nepali New Year

After the grand success of Bryan Adams live concert in Nepal, Indian singing sensation Kailash Kher  best known for his sufi singing is set to stage his first solo performance in Kathmandu On the Nepali New Year’s Eve,April 13, at Hotel Soaltee Crowne Plaza. 
Kher confirmed the news on Skype video chat conducted by Sunil Hamal of JPR Events at the Soaltee Crowne Plaza on Tuesday. “Kathmandu is a juxtaposition of art, music and culture and I’m looking forward to performing for the Nepali audience,” he said.

Recalling his previous visit to Kathmandu, Kher mentioned that he was impressed by the innocence of the people. “I was able to visit the Pashupatinath temple and I performed at a private party organized at the Hyatt Regency.”

Showcasing his knowledge of Nepali language, Kher asked, “tapailai kasto cha?” and sang a line from his hit number, “Saiyan.” He also sang the first two lines of the hit Nepali film song “kanchi he kanchi” and took the audience by surprise. Kher mentioned that he has worked with Nepali music directors. “I sang the title track of Akash Adhikari’s film “Kathmandu” and also in Nhyoo Bajracharya’s composition.” 

he will be performing for two hours at the event. He will be coming to Nepal with his 12 member band and staying for two nights in Kathmandu,” shared Samden Sherpa, director of JPR Events.

He also informed that JPR events was in talks with the team of the Temptation Reloaded Tour led by Bollywood stars Shahrukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra and they could be coming to Kathmandu in May.

“After the success of the Temptation Reloaded Tour in 2008, Khan and Chopra are embarking on another world tour in 2011 and Khan has agreed to come to Nepal although we are yet to sign a deal,” he said.

Opening the Kailesh Kher act will be Abhaya and the Steam Injuns. “Naresh and Paresh, the two members of Kailash Kher’s band-- Kailasha have been my long time friends. We worked together as a band when I was 19,” disclosed Abhaya Subba.

The ticket to the event is priced at Rs 5,000, which is inclusive of dinner. The audience capacity of the event has been estimated at 1,200.
