As you may recall, there was a lot of back and forth about whether Avengers was capable of beating Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. Well, perhaps not unsurprisingly, it did, and by a cool 23%. Remember, Potter made $169 million opening weekend.
What's also given The Avengers a major edge is that it first opened overseas, raking in the big bucks before hitting theaters domestically. But when it did, The Avengers broke records for the first Saturday and Sunday, making $69.5 million and $57 million respectively.
