IIFA Awards 2014:IIFA 2014 travelling to US for the first time


The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards is all set to make its maiden trip to the US by hosting the 2014 edition at the Tampa Bay in Florida.

"We are extremely excited to announce that IIFA 2014 will travel to US. We had been working on America for the last three years with various cities like Las Vegas, Chicago and New York," Andre Timmins, Director, IIFA and Wizcraft, told PTI in an exclusive interview.

The new venue aims to cash in on the huge fan base Indian cinema has in the US. "The maximum grosser of Indian cinema after India is America. We wanted to go to America because the city can transport what we do on ground. So, on that aspect we are happy that Tampa Bay is on," he added.

In the last 14 years, IIFA has travelled to four continents including Africa, Europe, Asia and North America.
Andre said that IIFA 2014 will be grand as it will try to connect with the Indians residing in the city.
"It is going to be extra-ordinary as we are going to convert the baseball stadium into a cricket stadium and there will be a match between celebrities and cricketers during award ceremony. IIFA rocks venue is about 21,000 people and main arena has the sitting capacity of 35,000 people. We will connect to all Gujarati and other Indian communities there," Andre said.The award ceremony will also see performances from noted Hollywood personalities.
Barbados, Las Vegas, Chicago and Johannesburg were other contenders to host the next edition of the Bollywood extravaganza.

The IIFA Rocks began with technical award on Friday where Anurag Basu's "Barfi!" took home the major trophies including Best Screenplay, Cinematography and Make-up among others. Vidya Balan took home the Best Actress award at IIFA 2013 for her portrayal of a pregnant woman in search of her husband in 'Kahaani' while Ranbir Kapoor was named Best Actor for 'Barfi!' here on Saturday.

While receiving her award from Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya made a special mention of her director Shoojit Sircar."I want to dedicate this award to my director Shoojit."

IIFA awards 2013: Shah Rukh Khan, Shahid Kapoor to co-host


Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan will host the upcoming 14th edition of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards at the Venetian in Macau. Shahid Kapoor will be joining him on stage as his co-host.However, this won’t be the first time Shahid and Shah Rukh will come together for such an event. The duo has previously hosted two editions of another film award function in 2010 and 2012.
Incidentally, Shah Rukh last anchored the IIFA Awards eight years ago (in 2005, in Amsterdam) with filmmaker Karan Johar and actor Fardeen Khan.He also performed at the 2004 and 2011 editions of the function, in Singapore and Toronto, Canada, respectively.This year, however, the organisers are not sure whether SRK will be in a condition to shake a leg on stage, as the actor recently underwent surgery for his injured shoulder.His right shoulder is currently in a brace and he has been advised complete rest by the doctor.

The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) revealed that Abhishek Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Madhuri Dixit will all be performing on the IIFA stage this year.
Also performing will be dance superstar Prabhu Dheva who will perform with Sridevi in a one-of-a-kind dance-off. As we draw closer to the 14th Videocon DDB IIFA Weekend, the promising line-up of performances for the IIFA Awards is sure to leave audiences mesmerized, as Indian Cinema takes centre-stage from July 4th - 6th at The Venetian Macao.Abhishek Bachchan who has performed at several IIFAs in the past will also grace the IIFA stage, having given his first international performance at IIFA 2005 in Amsterdam.Having seen phenomenal box-office success this year for her recent film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Deepika Padukone will showcase some of her signature moves from the recent hit songs in her most successful films including 'Angrezi Beats', 'Tumhi Ho Bandhu' and her most recent 'Balam Pichkaari'.
Also performing at the IIFA Awards will be one of Bollywood's most iconic leading ladies, Madhuri Dixit. Known for her iconic dance moves, Madhuri is preparing to make her IIFA debut this year. The acclaimed actress who has been in the industry for almost three decades will perform to a montage of the most unforgettable songs of her career.
Speaking on her upcoming performance, Madhuri Dixit-Nene said, "I have never been to an IIFA before and I'm very excited to be making my performance debut on the IIFA stage. I think that it a great fit especially since we're celebrating '100 years of Indian Cinema'. I am thrilled to perform for my fans from Hong Kong and Macau."

IIFA Awards 2013‘Barfi!’ leads with 15 nominations at IIFA Awards


After the barge of Bollywood awards, here’s the last one for the year, with the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards announcing their list of nominations.
The IIFA Voting Weekend was held in March, and the nominations reflect that exercise.In 2012, Bollywood saw more than 155 new releases, receiving global acclaim.Taking the lead with an impressive 15 nominations is Anurag Basu’s much-loved, poignant drama ‘Barfi!’, followed by Shoojit Sircar’s comedy ‘Vicky Donor’ with nine nominations.
Anurag Kashyap’s epic battle ‘Gangs of Wasseypur 1’ and the action-packed ‘Agneepath’ follow close behind.Films like ‘Cocktail’, ‘Kahaani’, ‘Paan Singh Tomar’ and Yash Chopra’s ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ have also secured nominations. Anurag Basu (Barfi), Anurag Kashyap (Gangs of Wasseypur-1), Sujoy Ghosh (Kahaani), Tigmanshu Dhulia (Paan Singh Tomar) and Shoojit Sircar (Vicky Donor) will vie for this year’s Best Director award.
In the Performance in a Leading Role (Male) category, the competition will be between Hrithik Roshan (Agneepath), Ranbir Kapoor (Barfi!), Manoj Bajpayee (Gangs of Wasseypur-1), Shah Rukh Khan (Jab Tak Hai Jaan), Irrfan Khan (Paan Singh Tomar), and Ayushmaan Khurrana (Vicky Donor)
Priyanka Chopra (Barfi!), Deepika Padukone (Cocktail), Sridevi (English Vinglish), Huma Qureshi (Gangs of Wasseypur-1), Kareena Kapoor (Heroine) and Vidya Balan (Kahaani) will battle it out for Performance in a Leading Role (Female).
Pritam has bagged two nominations in the category for Best Music Direction for ‘Barfi!’ and ‘Cocktail’ along with A R Rahman (Jab Tak Hai Jaan), Ajay-Atul (Agneepath) and Sneha Khanwalkar (Gangs of Wasseypur-1).
Best Playback Singer (Male) will see Mika Singh for ‘Pungi’ (Agent Vinod), Sonu Nigam for ‘Anhi Mujh Mein Kahi’ (Agneepath), Ajay Gogavale for ‘Deva Shree Ganesha’ (Agneepath), Mohit Chauhan for ‘Main Kya Karoon’ and ‘Aashiyan’ (Barfi!) and Ayushmann Khurrana for ‘Paani Da Rang’ (Vicky Donor).

In the female category, Shreya Ghoshal has earned herself two nominations for the songs ‘Chikni Chameli’ (Agneepath) and ‘Ashiyan’ (Barfi!),  along with Rekha Bhardwaj for ‘Phir Le Aya Dil’ (Barfi!), Kavita Seth for ‘Tumhi Ho Bandhu’ (Cocktail) and Shalmali Kholgade for ‘Pareshan’ (Ishqzaade).
“It’s been a phenomenal year for the Indian film industry and the nominations for this year reflects this. The growth has been remarkable,” informs Sabbas Joseph, director of Wizcraft International Entertainment & IIFA.
There’s still speculation over where the IIFA will be held this year, with the organisers informing that the venue and dates are likely to be announced early next month.
The online voting for the awards will go live on www.iifa.com and will be open to the global audience from May 1.
