2014 Oscars to take place on March 2

The 86th annual Oscar Awards will take place on March 2, 2014 while the 87th Oscar presentation would happen on February 22, the Academy has announced.

The next year's Acamedy award process will begin from November 16 with the Governors award. Nominations voting will begin on December 27 with the nominations being announced on January 16, a release said here.

The awards next year have been delayed because of the Winter Olympics which are set to run from February 7 through February 23, according to Variety.

2014 Super Bowl will begin on February 2, which saw the Grammys moving to January 26, forcing Academy Awards to push into March.

Oscar 2013:John Travolta and Liam Neeson named Oscar presenters

John Travolta and Liam Neeson have been roped in to present the trophies at this year’s Academy Awards on Sunday.

The Hollywood A-listers were added to the roster along with Melissa McCarthy and Salma Hayek Pinault, News.com.au reported

These four newcomers have joined the previously announced list of Academy Awards participants.

The names already unveiled by the producers include current nominees, last year’s winners and big co-stars from 2012’s top grossing films including Ben Affleck, Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Lawrence, Sandra Bullock, Mark Wahlberg and Robert Downey Jr.

In addition, all of last year’s Oscar winners, including Jean Dujardin, Christopher Plummer, Octavia Spencer and Meryl Streep, will present trophies to winners.

Adele, Dame Shirley Bassey, Norah Jones and Barbra Streisand are going to display their singing abilities at the annual event, which will be hosted by Seth MacFarlane.

Sandra Bullock wax figure unveiled at Madame Tussauds

Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock has been immortalised in wax at the Madame Tussauds museum in Las Vegas. 

The 48-year-old got her first ever wax figure displayed in the Venetian Resort and Casino, joining some other famous stars like Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Leonardo DiCaprio reported Ace Showbiz. The All About Steve star's wax statue was introduced on January 24.

With very accurate details, it is featured rocking a skintight red dress and black pumps complete with a golden miniaudiere. Its long brown hair is arranged to one side of the shoulder. 

The actress, who hasn't commented on her wax figure yet, is currently busy with her new action comedy pic The Heat.

Oscars Award 2013:Adele to perform Skyfall at the Oscars Award Ceremony

Singer Adele is set to perform the Oscar-nominated James Bond theme Skyfall at the Academy Awards next month. The 24-year-old will sing the latest 'James Bond' theme at the 85th Academy Awards at the Dolby Theatre here and she says she will never experience anything like it again, reported People magazine

"It's an honour to be nominated and terrifyingly wonderful to be singing in front of people who have captured my imagination over and over again. It's something I've never experienced and probably only ever will once," she said.
 The track, which Adele co-wrote with Paul Epworth, has been nominated for Original Song, the first Bond theme to get the Oscar nod since For Your Eyes Only in 1981.

Bombay Jayashri in top of the world after Oscar nomination

Carnatic music vocalist Bombay Jayashri is overjoyed after getting a Oscar nomination for her song "Pi Lullaby" from "Life of Pi". Written, composed and sung by Jayashri, the song has been nominated in best music original song category for the 85th Academy Awards, which will take place Feb 24 in Hollywood, Los Angeles. "It feels lovely. I am feeling as if I am on the top of the world. I am deeply grateful from the bottom of my heart that this ocassion has come in my life," Jayashri told CNN-IBN news channel.

The film, directed by Ang Lee, has bagged 11 Oscar nominations. "Ang Lee had few conversations on the phone with Mychael (Canadian composer Mychael Danna,) and me. When I was recording in the studio, Ang Lee was supervising it in New York and later in Los Angeles. He used to tell me exactly what he wanted to hear," said Jayashri. 

"It was a Tamil song and he knew what emotions to get out of it," Jayashri said and added that it "a fabulous learning experience". Major parts of fantasy adventure drama "Life of Pi" have been shot in India. An adaptation of Canadian author Yann Martel's Man's Booker Prize-winning novel, the film narrates the journey of an Indian boy who survives a storm at sea.

James Bond to Be Honored At the Oscars

James Bond will be honored at the Oscars next month (Feb13) following the success of the latest 007 caper, Skyfall. The 85th Academy Awards telecast will include a tribute to the movie franchise, which is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Show producer Craig Zadan says, "We are very happy to include a special sequence on our show saluting the Bond films on their 50th birthday.

"Starting with Dr No back in 1962, the 007 movies have become the longest-running motion picture franchise in history and a beloved global phenomenon".

The latest film is also expected to pick up a handful of nods when the Oscar nominations are announced next week (10 Jan 2013) and former 007 Timothy Dalton insists Skyfall - the most successful Bond movie ever - is worthy of serious consideration in a number of categories.

In a recent interview, Daniel Craig's predecessor insisted the latest blockbuster is "right at the forefront" of modern cinema. The spy series has only won two Oscars - for Best Sound Effects for 1964's Goldfinger and Best Special Visual Effects for its follow-up, Thunderball.

Dalton told the Sunday Express, "It is absolutely time for Bond to get proper attention at the Oscars. On almost every level this Bond movie is right at the forefront of what cinema is capable of.

"It is an absolutely modern James Bond, a movie truly of its time. Daniel Craig is fantastic and it feels very real. I thought the film was fabulous".

Skyfall has become the first Bond film to sail past $1 billion at the global box office. It has also become the first movie ever to cross the £100 million ($160 million) in the U.K.

Oscars to stay in Hollywood for another 20 years

 The Academyof Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which is the governing body behind the Oscars award ceremony, announced on Tuesday that it had signed a new 20-year deal with CIM Group to keep the annual awards show at the Hollywood and Highland Center through 2033. A Dolby Laboratories agreement with the owners of the complex to take over the naming rights to the theatre has also been confirmed, previously belonging to Kodak, which filed for bankruptcy.

The agreement quells the rumours that the academy's board of governors was going to move its annual telecast downtown to the LA Live complex and its Nokia Theatre.
'The academy's board of governors believes that the home for our awards is in Hollywood,' LA times quoted Tom Sherak, academy president as saying.
'We are pleased to have a new agreement with CIM that will continue our longstanding partnership,' he added.
The Academy Awards have been held at the theater within the Hollywoodand Highland center since 2002, and the idea of a move downtown was viewed by Hollywoodresidents as a blow to the local economy and to the center itself, which built the 3,400-seat theater specifically to house the annual show.

A move downtown would have offered the academy more room for outdoor activities in addition to a theater with twice the occupancy of its current location.

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy wins first Oscar for Pakistan

Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has won an Academy Award for her documentary about acid attack victims, becoming the first person from the country to win an Oscar. In her acceptance speech, and first-time Oscar nominee Chinoy dedicated the award to the women of Pakistan.

"All the women in Pakistanworking for change, don't give up on your dreams, this is for you," the News quoted her as saying.

Directed by Daniel Junge and produced by Chinoy, the film follows British plastic surgeon Dr. Mohammad Jawad, who returns to his homeland to help victims of acid burns.

More than 100 people, mainly women and girls, are disfigured in acid attacks every year in Pakistan, although groups helping survivors say many more cases go unreported.

"The women who decided to be a part of the documentary did so because they wanted to make their voices heard and wanted to bring attention to this form of assault," Chinoy said in an interview conducted before she won the Oscar.

"The main reason that they are in 'Saving Face' is to make their stories heard and have an impact," she added.

Many victims are women attacked by their husbands, and others assaulted for turning down a proposal of marriage. One girl in the documentary describes how she was burned after rejecting the advances of her teacher. She was 13 at the time.

Another woman featured in the film is 25-year-old Rukhsana, whose husband threw acid on her and her sister-in-law doused her in gasoline before her mother-in-law lit a match and set her on fire.

Chinoy said she hopes the cases in her film will resonate for others in Pakistan.

"It is a story of hope with a powerful message for the Pakistani audience. I felt this would be a great way to show how Pakistanis can help other Pakistanis overcome their problems," she asserted.

A. R. Rahman performs at Oscars Awards 2012 again

Indian composer A.R. Rahman performed at the 84th Academy Awards here as part of the Oscar band in his third performance at the prestigious award ceremony. "Oscar sangamam - if you are watching the Oscars live, catch our Oscar superband headed by Hans Zimmer perform tonight," Rahman posted on his Facebook page for his fans.

He even posted a picture with all members of the band, which performed throughout Sunday night's ceremony.

Last year Rahman had sung his tracks from "127 Hours" at the Oscar ceremony.

In 2009, the 46-year-old performed for the first time at the Oscar stage and in the same year he won two golden statuettes for best original score and best original song ("Jai ho") for the movie "Slumdog Millionaire".

Other performances at the ceremony also included Esperanza Spalding's rendition of Louis Armstrong's "What a wonderful world" as a tribute to the entertainers who died during the past year.

There was also a performance by circus arts and street entertainment group Cirque du Soleil.

The silent-era film "The Artist" won five awards, including the coveted Best Picture prize, at Sunday's 84th Academy Awards. Michel Hazanavicius won the Oscar for Directing and Jean Dujardin won the Actor in a Leading Role award for the black-and-white French film.

Chinese acrobats to perform at the 84th Oscars Awards. Know about other celebrity performer

Acrobats from China will for the first time perform at the Academy Awards ceremony to be held in Los Angeles Sunday. Nine artists from east Shandong province will perform gruelling feats of physical prowess at the Kodak Theater, the acrobatic team's coach Zhou Yonghui told Xinhua.

The performers have earlier won honours at the 34th International Circus Festival in Monte Carloin 2010.

Acrobats from Russia, France, Braziland Ukraineare also scheduled to perform at the ceremony.

Yao Jianguo, head of the Shandongprovincial acrobatic troupe, said Chinese acrobatics has been around for more than 2,000 years and puts an emphasis on agility and speed.

"It may impress Western audiences, as such art is rarely seen in their countries," he said.

Besides Chinese Acrobats other Hollywood celebrity are also performing in the 84th Academy Awards ceremony

The "Bridesmaids" Cast

Six actresses – Rose Byrne, Ellie Kemper, Melissa McCarthy, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig – from the hit comedy "Bridesmaids" will be presenters at the 84th Academy Awards. McCarthy received her first Oscar® nomination this year for her supporting role in the film, and Wiig also became a first-time nominee for the film's original screenplay.

Cruz won an Oscar in 2008 for her supporting role in "Vicky Cristina Barcelona." She was also nominated for her lead performance in "Volver" (2006) and for her supporting role in "Nine" (2009).

Cameron Diaz

Diaz will be seen next in "What to Expect When You're Expecting" and "Gambit."

Michael Douglas

Douglas won an Oscar for his lead performance in "Wall Street" (1987) and a Best Picture award as a producer of "One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest" (1975).

Will Ferrell

Tina Fey

Oscar winner Director Kathryn to make film on Osama bin laden

Kathryn Bigelow, director of the Oscar-winning war film "The Hurt Locker," is reportedly developing an action thriller about the U.S.-led hunt for Osama bin Laden.

The 60-year-old director's eagerly-awaited film, which is reportedly titled 'Zero Dark Thirty', is due for release in December this year, tells the story of the US Navy Seal team which trailed the notorious al-Qaeda leader before finally killing him, his aides and one of his sons in a night raid on his secret compound in the heart of a Pakistan army establishment town abottabad .

Its cast is set to include 'The Help' star Jessica Chastain, British actor Mark Strong, Aymen Hamdouchi and Kyle Chandler.

Kathryn Bigelow

The raid, which was carried out without the knowledge of the Pakistan army and government, caused widespread anger at the violation of the country's sovereignty and remains a source of anti-American feeling in the country.

The producers decided in the current security climate it would be impossible for them to film in Pakistan and looked for alternative locations.

The Associated Press quoted a person close to Bigelow and "The Hurt Locker" screenwriter Mark Boal as saying that the filmmakers are moving forward with the new film project. The two have not commented. Bigelow and Boal began developing a thriller said to be about bin Laden back in December 2010. Work on the project's script began in January.

"The Hurt Locker" tells of a U.S. bomb squad in Iraqin 2004 and stars Jeremy Renner. The film won six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, in 2010. Bigelow won the prize for Best Directing and Boal took home the award for Best Writing (Original Screenplay).

Bigelow is also known for directing the cult surfer crime film "Point Break," which starsPatrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves.

Osama Bin laden

Bigelow and Boal are also working on a film tentatively titled "Triple Frontier," which centers on a group of men working in a border zone between Paraguay, Argentinaand Brazil, which has been a suspected haven for organized crime and terrorists. Actors linked to the project, set for release in 2012, include Tom Hanks and Johnny Depp.

The "Triple Frontier" between the countries is difficult to monitor and control. In 2002, a year after the September 11 attacks, the area was dubbed "the center of Middle Eastern terrorism in South America." In 2006, the United States suspected Muslim members of its communities raised funds for terrorist organizations, including al-Qaeda.
