71,240 Suitors Vie For Veena Malik's Swayamvar, Only 40 Selected

Nearly 71,240 suitors have lined up for the hand of Pakistani actor Veena Malik in her TV swayamvar reality show, reports HT City.

For Swayamvar Season 4 - Veena Ka Vivah, Veena Malik has attracted the maximum number of entries (71,240) on Imagine TV, leaving far behind Rakhi Sawant (30,000), Rahul Mahajan (43,000) and Ratan Rajput (54,000).

Most of the 'applicants', the report said, are from India, Pakistan, the UK and the US, and even from faraway Poland.

Says an excited Veena: "I am overwhelmed by the response, but was thrilled that the maximum number of entries were from India."

Delhi, Haryana, National Capital Region, Moradabad, Uttarakhand are the frontrunners with 41 per cent of the entries from these areas, the report said. Mumbai and Pune followed with 38 per cent.The show received over 600 international entries, with 39 per cent applicants from Pakistanand the rest from Saudia Arabia, US, UK, Poland, New Zealand, Bahrainand Nepal.

Says Veena Malik: "I knew that guys serious about getting married would send in their profiles, but over 71,000 is a number beyond my expectations.And though I was expecting entries from the UK, US, India and Pakistan, I found it surprising to see a large number of entries from Poland."

"I think Pakistani and Indian girls are famous for their beauty, family values and tradition, which is why even guys from Polandare interested."The show's production team screened the entries and whittled them down to 116.Veena then picked the top 40. "Choosing the 16 finalists is giving me sleepless nights", says Veena.

Veena Malik will get Rs 3 crore for the show and an additional Rs 1.5 crore if she gets married.

Michael Jackson's Never seen photo album goes for Auction

A never-before-seenfamily photo album of Michael Jackson has been put on the market for sale.
Taken in the 1970s, the snaps are of relatives and friends - most unknown to the public.
Bound in a nondescript cover, it looks just like any other family album, but it provides a unique insight into pop star's most famous clan.

It was one of a massive collection of items Jackson placed into storage in the 1990s.
But they were repossessed shortly before his 2009 death because he could not afford to pay the 60,000 pounds release fee.
A private collector based in Britain bought the album and is now selling it at WH Peacocksauctioneers in Bedford, Bedfordshire, next month.
The sale has already attracted huge interest in the U. S. and auction houses believe the lot will well exceed its base price of just 3,000 pounds.
While some of the images clearly show Jackson, the subjects in some of the other shots are less identifiable.

The auctioneers admit that, without a member of the Jackson family themselves pointing out who everyone was, be they relatives or friends, it is difficult to identify many individuals.
A spokesman for the auction house admitted he had never seen anything like this before.
"We have kept the sale value low, because so many people still have Michael Jacksonmemorabilia, but no one has anything like this," John Lewis said.

"I deal with rock and pop memorabilia and items every day and you just don't see something as intimate as this coming up for auction, from Michael Jackson or anyone for that matter.
"It's a family album, just like anyone one of us may have. There are little Polaroids, small prints and regular photographs - it's just that in these photos is a global megastar.
"We have already had a lot of interest from the U. S. but we're expecting interest from all over the world.

"It is intriguing to look at these photos and guess who is in them, obviously we all look a look different when we're younger so it's fun to guess who is who.
"I suppose the real people who'll know who all the people are in the album are the Jackson family themselves," he added.The seller - who wishes to remain anonymous - picked up the album from private collectors in the U. S.

'Star Wars' Designers Ralph McQuarrie dies at age of 82

Ralph McQuarrie, the Academy Award-winning conceptual designer and illustrator who was instrumental in defining the look of 'Star Wars' icons, died at his home in California on Saturday. He was 82. A statement posted on McQuarrie's official website on Sunday said the artist died at his home in Berkeley, California, on Saturday. "Ralph was a very special person for many more reasons than his undeniable brilliance with a brush," the statement said. "He was an especially kind, sensitive, deep, modest, funny and fascinating gentleman. And as fine a role model as any one could have wished for."

McQuarrie is best known for designing characters, creatures, vehicles, and setting designs for the 1977 movie 'Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope', the 1980 movie 'Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back', and the 1983 movie 'Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.' His work was the basis for iconic characters such as Darth Vader, Chewbacca, R2-D2 and C-3PO.

"Ralph McQuarrie was the first person I hired to help me envision Star Wars," said director George Lucas. "His genial contribution, in the form of unequaled production paintings, propelled and inspired all of the cast and crew of the original Star Wars trilogy. When words could not convey my ideas, I could always point to one of Ralph's fabulous illustrations and say, 'Do it like this.'"

McQuarrie had been asked to work on the 'Star Wars' prequels but declined because he had run out of ideas and thought he would be unable to add to the work of the art department. "He respectfully declined, allowing the new generation of artists to carry the torch," according to his official website.

Lucas, commenting on Sunday's news, said McQuarrie inspired at least two generations of younger artists. "Like me, they were thrilled by his keen eye and creative imagination, which always brought concepts to their most ideal plateau," he said. "In many ways, he was a generous father to a conceptual art revolution that was born of his artwork, and which seized the imaginations of thousands and propelled them into the film industry. In that way, we will all be benefiting from his oeuvre for generations to come."

Besides his work on 'Star Wars', McQuarrie also designed the alien ships in the 1977 movie 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' and the 1982 movie 'E. T. the Extra-Terrestrial'. His work as the conceptual artist on the 1985 movie 'Cocoon' earned him an Academy Award for Visual Effects.

After his retirement, McQuarrie lived with his wife Joan in Berkeley. He was later diagnosed with Parkinson's disease after which he lost full control of his right hand, leaving him unable to draw.
